1. Qualy Time Attack Season Schedule
The Qualy Time Attack (QTA) season is different from traditional time attack series – our schedule will be broken up into 4 cups. The Spring Cup, the Summer Cup, the Fall Cup, and the Winter Special Cup. The schedules will be broken down into the following:
| Cup | Dates |
|---|---|
| Spring Cup | March 1 – May 31 |
| Summer Cup | June 1 – August 31 |
| Fall Cup | September 1 – November 30 |
| Winter Special (coming soon) | December 1 – February 28/29 |
The purpose of our schedule is to give drivers more opportunities to post laps at their convenience and still compete. For each cup, drivers will have the opportunity to earn points by driving and posting lap times at the tracks of their choice. As you post laps, you will earn points, and the drivers with the most points in each class will win the cup. Since most drivers can only compete in three seasons, the QTA championship will be determined after the Fall Classic.
2. Point System
Cars will be classed first by Motor – A, S, R, X, or U, then by Modification level – Stock, Street, Street-E, Track, or Unlimited. Example classes include R-Stock, A-Street, S-Track, etc.
When drivers enter into a cup, they must enter with a specific car and class. Drivers earn points by uploading laps at each track and in each cup. For example, if you win in your class at both Autobahn and Gingerman during the Spring, you will have earned a total of 200 points for the Spring Cup. Points are totaled over the Spring, Summer, and Fall Cups (the Winter Special is a separate competition coming soon). Trophies are awarded at each Modification level – Stock, Street, Street-E, Track, or Unlimited, regardless of Motor.
Laps uploaded during any one cup only count within that cup. A driver who earned points at a specific track during the Spring Classic must drive at the same track during the Summer Classic to earn additional points.
The Points breakdown is as follows:
| Position | Points |
|---|---|
| 1 | 100 (max points, base) |
| 2 | (fastest lap)/(second fastest lap) * 100, to the nearest hundredth |
| 3 | (fastest lap)/(third fastest lap) * 100, to the nearest hundredth |
| 4 | (fastest lap)/(fourth fastest lap) * 100, to the nearest hundredth |
| 5 | (fastest lap)/(fifth fastest lap) * 100, to the nearest hundredth |
| 6 | So on.. |
3. Submission Guidelines
A few submission guidelines to keep things easier on everyone:
- You must register for the cup before the registration deadline closes.
- Safely attend your local organizer's event – whether it is an HPDE, track day, time attack, follow all event organizers rules.
- All lap submissions are subject to the lap upload disclaimer and verification process. Only laps submitted in accordance with these requirements are eligible for points.
- Record your laps with an action camera. If you choose to use telemetry/data acquisition, that will help us with the lap verification process.
- Upload the video to YouTube. Please note, your videos must be set to unlisted or public.
- Submit the video link, your laptime, and all other information in the lap submission upload.
- We will have a field for hashtags to allow easier filtering in the Leaderboard (i.e. #specmiata will allow you to compare your lap against all other drivers who use #specmiata, or #friendgroup7 if you want to view laps compared to your specific group of friends, or #honda to see who's got the fastest Honda).
- Laps will be verified within 7 days before posting to the official Leaderboard.
- Review other competitors builds, laps and compare your performance!
4. Historical Open
The Historical Open is available for new joiners to Qualy. The open will include laps from Jan 1, 2015 to the start of the next competitive cup. This is an opportunity for our new drivers to enter all of their historical laps, which will be verified by the Qualy team. Once verified, these laps will appear on the Driver Profile, the garaged car the laps belong to, and the all-time Leaderboard. The cost of the Historical Open is $20, but for a limited time the open will come free with any entry into one of the competitive cups.
5. A Few More Details…
Drivers will have a 7-day grace-period at the end of a cup to upload their lap. We don't expect you to upload a lap the same day you race. For example, if you raced on May 31st (the last day of the Spring Cup), you will have until June 7th to upload your lap time to qualify in the Spring Cup. After that, the cup is closed and no more submissions will be allowed. We will allow other drivers to protest other laps for another 3 days, after which points for the cup will be tabulated. Please use the protest function wisely.
Unlike in-person time attack organizations, drivers who compete in QTA can compete in as many cars as they wish. Any cars that you wish to compete with must be assigned in the Garage for both Motor and Modification class and you must register and pay the entry fee for each car ($10/additional car), for each cup. If you are using the same car but with a different setup that you switch back and forth with, each setup that results in a new class is an additional registration. Upload your laps for each car, and the fastest laps will be counted and tabulated at the end of the cup. Each car+class will earn points independently and do not accumulate up to the driver. However, from a competition standpoint, it may be more advantageous to race a single car in a single class.
Cars may be updated, modified, and changed throughout the cup. Modifications that move the car from one class to another must be updated during the cup. Points accumulated to that point will be kept, but additional points will not be earned for that car+class. Drivers are allowed to move their car from one class to another once without charge – subsequent changes will cost an additional fee. Cars that were modified to a new class must begin earning points in that class from that point onward. Failure to properly report classing for modifications will be considered cheating. Please see the Code of Fair Competition. Please consult the rules to make sure your car is classed appropriately. Please note that while a cup is "live", only drivers who are registered in the cup are allowed to view the results, until the cup is closed.
In the event of points ties, the winner will be determined by whoever has the most first place finishes throughout the full season. If drivers are still tied, the winner will be determined by whoever has the most second place finishes. If drivers are still tied, the winner will be determined by whoever has the most third place finishes, and so on until a winner is determined.
The rules we've implemented here are designed to ensure fair and fun competition. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us – and most importantly, stay safe!
6. TL;DR (Too Long; Didn't Read)
Here's how we break it down:
- Class your car, register for a cup, and pay the entry fee.
- Track your car just as you normally would - at your preferred tracks, whenever you want, as many times as you want during that cup.
- Upload your laps to QTA.
- For each track you've submitted a lap for, if you're in the Top 10 in your class – great! You earn points. If not, better luck next time.
- Repeat throughout the year in each cup.
- The driver with the highest point totals in Stock, Street, Street-E, Track, and Unlimited by the end of the Fall Cup will be crowned champions! Prizes (TBD) will be rewarded at both the Cup and Championship levels.
